Darkness fell quickly on Halloween night --
the ghouls of the evening readied their flight --
the moon was in hiding, behind a dark cloud --
voices whispering, none spoke aloud!
Children, silly ones, thought it a game --
the ones who were older scarce spoke the name.
"Halloweeeeeeeeeeeeeen! "cried the owl too high up to see!
"Halloweeeeeeeeeennnn! " echoed off gravestones and trees!
Slowly the mists and the cotton-thick fog
assembled in shapes over swamps and in bogs....
Bones from bodies gone long years before
rose up and danced through windows and doors --
no locks could hold them, no fences defend --
this was their night of the year to pretend
they'd never left home, right where you are sitting,
and now it's your turn to do all their bidding!
So comfort yourself when you feel that cold chill,
steeling your mind against powerful wills
of spirits that just might for this one evening
find it quite fun to play at deceiving --
they'll make you see things you never have known,
make things so light they look like they've flown --
make things that squeak now speak with a groan,
make you afraid of being alone.
Are they quite evil? It's for you to learn.
If you fear their fun, on you they may turn.
Remember that they were as you are today,
and lived where you do - you're just in their way!
This one special night of all of the year
they come back to see what's going on here.
You can fight them all night if you so choose
but it's a war you cannot help but lose --
your weapons can't aim at the place where they are --
it's like sending cannon shot off to a star!
They'll think you quite foolish and spin you around,
enjoying your fear as they fly up and down.
Better just stay quiet, and out of their way
until morning's light makes waste of their day.
Sleep well! Stay safe! And have pleasant dreams,
and until
dawn breaks its spell, have a

Goblins and spirits are waiting to find
preoccupied victims with lots on their minds....
Keep your wits about you, or else you may learn
they've taken them to share - they think it's their turn!!
